CDHR seeks review of panel to probe Aregbesola
for the review of the committe set up by the Osun State
House of Assembly to probe the allegations of financial
recklessness leveled against Governor Rauf Aregbesola by
Justice Folahanmi Oloyede.
The CDHR made the call in a statement signed and made
available to our correspondent in Osogbo, on Monday, by its
Chairman, Akinkunmi Asifat and Publicity Secretary, Mr.
The group seeks inclusion of members of the Peoples
Democratic Party in the House of Assembly,
representatives of trade unions; civil servants and Judicial
Service Commission in the panel to make its report
acceptable to everybody.
The statement read, â€ There is need for the House of
Assembly to constitute a credible committee whose reports
would be acceptable to all without any iota of doubt or
confusion on the allegations leveled against the governor.
â€œIt is logical to have people of different political parties,
trade unions, civil servants and representative of Judicial
Service Commission for proper representation of all the
parties involved or that have shown interest in the state.â€
The CDHR also urged the lawmakers to ensure that a
thorough investigation is carried out into the judgeâ€™s
petition to ascertain its veracity while urging those
demanding the resignation of the judge to stop the call until
after the report of the panel.
â€œWe are also using this medium to warn members of the
public, particularly politicians from humiliating and
attacking the judge, and against any act capable of running
down her person and dignity as a judicial officer and a
â€œWe see the call for the resignation of the judge and her
sanction by National Judicial Council as premature. The
call, to us, is expected to come after the House of
Assembly found out the petition is either frivolous or lacking
in credibility. We need to see the outcome of the petition
before passing judgment on Justice Folahanmi,â€ he added.
It will be recalled that the Minority Leader at the House, Mr.
Oladejo Makinde, who is a member of the PDP had raised
an objection to the composition of the panel which was
inaugurated by the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Mr.
Najeem Salaam, last Thursday.
